The Problem with Playing Paintball in the Winter time

Posted by Administrator

So i just read another paintball blog saying its fun to play in the winter time.  My response to that is, that guy doesn’t play paintball.  He’s why paintball sucks in the winter time.

1) If there is snow on the ground (we’re in New England so there is always snow) its a workout to get from point A to point B because you sink in the snow.   You have to “high knee it” to move around and thats not easy with an extra 20 lbs worth of paintball gear and paintballs on you.

2) its cold

3) Paintballs become very brittle when they are exposed to cold. This means even on the truck on the way to your local paintball field, if the shipment is exposed to cold the whole batch is almost useless.  If paintballs are stored in a unheated location, they will also become brittle.  The paintballs will break in your gun more often which sucks.  Make sure you use a winter paintball or a cheaper 1st run paintball.  The shells will be thicker when these types of paintballs.
4) You can’t use CO2 in the wintertime.  Co2 will loose its pressure and cause freeze up in your gun, if its cold out.  If its real bad your paintball gun won’t even shoot at all.  There are tricks (more like band aids) around this like using an expansion chamber and a heated hunting sock to keep your tank warm but these are not fool proof methods.  You would be better off getting a cheap 47/3000 paintball air tank instead of investing in a expansion chamber set up.  Compressed air AKA n2 doesn’t have the same cold weather CO2 has, so if your dead set on playing in the winter time, and you have CO2 you need to update your tank.

5) Your stuck in the “woods”.  Air fields can’t hold air during the winter months becuase its so cold.  So your stuck in the “woods”  i put woods in quotes becuase there is no brush or leaves around. Your basically stuck, running around through vertical sticks in the ground, knee deep in snow.  You don’t want to sit, becuase the snow will melt then you will be wet and cold.

SAK World Paintball and Nitro Duck Possible Merger

Posted by Administrator

SAKworldpaintball.com has been a long time dealer of the Nitroduck Brand name. NitroDuck has always been an innovator in HPA technology, blazing the way with their dual stage Mega Regulator, their single stage adjustable X-Stream regulator and currently the Iregulator which has a interchangeable pressure piston kit. NitroDuck was the first company to put “tank threads” on a HPA tank and to drop the whole cradle/dove tail system. This innovation paved the way to 97% of all paintball tanks having the common screw in feature. When we heard of the opportunity to acquire the brand, a long standing name in paintball, we jumped at the thought. We are currently exploring all aspects of the possible buy out including if it makes sense and adds value to our mutual customers. If any information develops we will be sure to update it here.

Extreme Rage Paintball Googles are a great Goggle System for the Money

Posted by Administrator

Extreme Rage paintball has been making paintball goggles for the past few years now. They offer a mid priced paintball goggle solution that boasts decent comfort and anti-fog capabilities.

The 20/20 Echo Paintball goggle system offers a wide field of view, with a great pair of Thermal Anti-fog lenses.  The Mask is soft, comfortable to wear and offers good breathing ventilation which also aids on the over all comfort system of the goggles. They also come in some cool colors.   If Black is your color of choice check out these 20/20 paintball goggles that come with a fan.  They come in black, are as comfortable as the ECHO line and the Fan helps eliminate any fogging that the Thermal Lens’ can’t keep up with.

If you work at a field of or play a lot of backyard ball, Extreme Rage also makes version of their goggles system in yellow, so you stand out of the woods or speed ball course.  Lets face it if your Reffing a game, getting shot a lot is not fun, so anything you can do to prevent that is a plus.

Can I fill my own Compressed Air Paintball Tank at home?

Posted by Administrator

The short answer to this for 99.9999999% of the paintball players out there is no.  A n2 or compressed paintball air tank is at the min.  3,000 PSI.  Your average home or “shop” air compressor is like 170 PSI.  So there is a big difference there. 170PSI wouldn’t even let your gun cycle once then again shoot.  SAKworldpaintball.com does supply compressor packages they range form $6k-$15k and are custom built per your needs.

How To Fill A CO2 Tank -Step By Step

Posted by Administrator

If you already have the 3 things you need to fill a CO2 Tank then lets get started.  Filling your own tank is quick and easy. I do recommend wearing a pair of thin gloves because the CO2 tank can get a little cold.
1) Hook up your fill station to your bulk CO2 Siphon tank.

2) Hook up your Paintball CO2 tank (20oz or whatever) to your fill station and place the tank on your digital scale.

3) If your CO2 has some Liquid CO2 left in it drain it completely, this will chill the tank and aid in getting a full CO2 Fill.  Hit the TARE feature on your scale to set the scale to ZERO.  Now skip to step 5.

4) Set your Scale to ZERO by using its TARE feature.  If your CO2 tank was empty pump a few ounces into the tank (watch the scale), then bleed it.  This will cause your paintball co2 tank to chill.  You can not fill a warm CO2 tank fully, this is why you need to chill it by bleeding some CO2 out.  A trick to save CO2 is to stick an empty tank in the freezer for a few hours.  This will chill the tank so you don’t have to waist CO2 to Chill the tank.

5) Once your tank is chilled you can fill the tank completely.  If you have a 20 ounce CO2 tank you can put 20 ounces of CO2 in. If you have a 9 ounce tank then you put 9 ounces of CO2 in.  Ect.  NO NOT OVER FILL YOUR TANK.  IF you over fill your tank, the pressure will build to high in the tank and you will rupture the Burst Disk (safety device which stops you from over filling).  Once the burst disk ruptures all the CO2 in the tank will bleed out.  You will have to replace the burst disk at your local store.

6) Shut off the Bulk CO2 source, disengage the pin valve on the CO2 tank, and bleed the fill line, and your done.

Its pretty easy.  Once you fill a few tanks you should be able to fill a CO2 tank in about 1 minute.

Trouble Shooting:

1) You can not fill the tank completely(only a few ounces go in)!  Answers:  a) You didn’t chill your tank enough.  b) Your bulk CO2 tank is empty/Low c) Your bulk  CO2 tank is not a siphon tank (no dip tube).

Filling your Own Paintball CO2 tank is Easy! You Only need 3 things.

Posted by Administrator

If you live out in a remote location and want to fill your own CO2 tanks for paintball, you can, its its pretty easy too! You basically need 3 things.

1) The First item you need is a bulk 50lb CO2 tank. The tank must be a siphon Co2 tank. Siphon meaning it has a long “dip tube” that goes from the valve head all the way down to almost the bottom of the tank. This dip tube sucks up all the liquid CO2 so it can be transfered to your smaller paintball CO2 tank. You can crack open the telephone book and look for a welding supply or gas supply business, they will have these tanks. You usually have to sign up for a 1 year lease (to “rent” the bulk tank) then pay for each fill. Call around because different places will have different lease and fill prices.

2) The second item you need is a CO2 Fill station. SAKworldpaintball.com has a few to choose from. They all will do the trick. If you will be filling a lot of tanks we recommend the Professional or the Deluxe fill station. The Single Lever fill station is very nice too.

3) You need some sort of scale that has a tare feature and that measures ounces. Postal Scales to a good job and are usually available at any office supply store. Make sure you get one that has a nice large platform. They usually run around $40.

Thats it! Once you have those 3 items you are ready to fill your own CO2 Tanks.

View Loader Stops Selling Paintball Hoppers to Paintball Distributers

Posted by Administrator

So View Loader has followed Smart Parts and Tippmann by discontinuing their distributer sales.  View Loader, is owned by a larger conglomerate (k2 Sports) who also owns Brass Eagle and Worr Game Products.  View Loader by far is their most profitable division.

View Loader Makes Quality paintball hoppers like the Revolution EYE Force and the Vlocity Paintball Hoppers.  It has been rumored, that k2 may be selling off View Loader, so for them to discontinue distributer sales would mean they would increase there over all profit margin by a few points.  This makes sense if VL is trying to sell.  As far as who would buy them, I’m not really sure.  With Empire, Draxxus, and new paintball Hopper makers like the NXE Jrny, I’m not sure what current industry players would want VL.  We will have to wait and see what happens.

Tippmann stops all sales to distributers

Posted by Administrator

Tippmann Sports has stopped distributer sales.  Tippmann followed Smart Parts lead by stopping all distributer sales in 2008.  Kevin Sheehan of Tippmann says they did this to help control who is selling their paintball guns.  I think they saw  Smart Parts do this in late 2007, and realized it could work for them.  When a manufacture cuts out a distributer, they usually make more money because a distributer would pay a lower price for an item, than a retail store would be (the store has less volume).

Tippmann has been around since the beginning of paintball.   You can see all their paintball guns here.

Good Luck Pat’s!

SAKworldpaintball.com would like to wish the New England Patriots good luck in the Super Bowel today.  Although football is not an “extreme” sport or nearly as cool as paintball, we still wish them luck. I’m sure if the guys  play paintball, they would get their paintball guns and other equipment from us.
